Don't leave Square. Add what it's missing for groups.

Here's what nobody tells you: adopting a real booking platform doesn't mean leaving Square. ArtistryHost is Square-native — it makes Square work for your experience business instead of against it. Square Appointments is a fine 1:1 scheduler, but for group classes, tastings, and private events, Square itself points operators to a third-party tool. ArtistryHost is that tool, built on the Square you already run.

Square Appointments — the model
$49–$149/mo per location · 1:1 appointment scheduling
≈ $588–$1,788 per location / year
ArtistryHost — the model
$75/mo flat ($50 annual)
$600–$900/yr · your own Square

Both Square Appointments and ArtistryHost run on the same Square — same payments, same 2.5% + 15¢ processing. The difference is what happens when a booking is a group of twelve instead of one client. Group booking is paywalled on Square Appointments and, in Square's own words, not optimized for it.

1:1 by design
Built for one chair, not a room of twelve.

Square Appointments is designed for 1:1 appointments — a haircut, a consult, a single client in a chair. Square's own community moderators say it "isn't optimized for group classes, events, etc." Group booking sits behind the paid tier and, by Square's own admission, still isn't built for the way a class or tasting actually runs.

ArtistryHost is built for group experiences from the ground up — party size, one instructor, one table, private buyouts — and it runs on the same Square you already use.

The workaround
Selling seats as “inventory” isn't a booking system.

To run a class in Square Appointments, Square's suggested workaround is to list each time slot as a physical product with a stock count and let guests "buy" spots. It holds together until you need a run sheet, party notes, a waitlist, or a private event.

ArtistryHost treats a group booking as a booking — party size, guest notes, check-in, and a host-stand run sheet — not a retail item pretending to be a reservation.

Same Square
You don't have to leave Square to fix this.

The fear that keeps operators on a tool that doesn't fit: adopting a real booking platform means ripping out Square — new POS, new payments, retraining the team, redoing deposits. So the workaround becomes the system.

ArtistryHost is Square-native. Same POS, same card processing (2.5% + 15¢), same deposit schedule, same retail and gift cards — ArtistryHost adds the group-experience booking layer on top. You add a partner; you don't switch a system.

Migrating from Square Appointments is the easiest move there is — you're already on Square. We preload your calendar, keep your Square payments and deposits exactly as they are, and email your guests about the change. Nothing about how you get paid changes.

Square Appointments vs ArtistryHost — honest answers.

Do I have to leave Square to use ArtistryHost?
No — that's the whole point. ArtistryHost is Square-native. Same POS, same card processing (2.5% + 15¢), same deposit schedule, same retail and gift cards. You keep everything you already like about Square, and ArtistryHost adds the group-experience booking layer on top. You're adding a partner, not switching a system.
Why not just use Square Appointments for my classes?
Square Appointments is excellent for 1:1 appointments — but Square's own community moderators say it isn't optimized for group classes and events, and the suggested workaround is to sell class seats as inventory items. If your bookings are groups, tastings, parties, or buyouts, you need a layer built for that. ArtistryHost is — on the same Square.
How is ArtistryHost different from Square Appointments on price?
Square Appointments runs $49/month (Plus) to $149/month (Premium) per location, with group and class booking on the paid tiers. ArtistryHost is a flat $75/month ($50 annually). Card processing is identical on both because both run on Square — so you're really choosing on fit, not fee: a 1:1 scheduler versus a platform built for group experiences.
